Faces in the Media -- Jerry Sanders
In our final art project of the year, we made mixed media paintings of an image in the media. We painted our images in the way the media portrays our person through different color schemes. We also were to incorporate a mixed media element, such as a collage to our painting.
I painted Jerry Sanders, the mayor of San Diego. He was up for re-election in June 2008 against his rival, Steve Franscis. Franscis spent his own money to smear Sanders image. Jerry Sanders responded with an expletive phrase to Franscis. That is why I portrayed him with shades and tints of red, for anger. I pasteled the City of San Diego seal, and photographed the San Diego skyline (from the San Diego Bay Bridge). In my opinion, I feel that this shows what I have learned in art this semester. I used my knowledge of the color wheel to mix my colors to create my artwork. I also used my Photoshop skills that I have learned throughout my stay at High Tech High Media Arts.

"I don't run to my mother or to anybody else and say, 'Somebody talked naughty to me today.' I mean that's part of being a grown-up in a pretty grown-up business."
