Humanities with Joann
Eric is in Joann Cornejo's Humanities Class
We started off this year in humanities with short stories inspired by the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. We finished our Kite Runner project by making kites with symbols painted on them. After the kite project, we began work on the Industrial Revolution, with a No-Tech Challenge and a persuasive essay. We also did comic strips from Communist Manifesto. A week was prempted due to the Firestrom and we moved quickly into Imperialism where we read Things Fall Apart and watched Guns, Germs, and Steel. We explored Imperialism concepts through mini-lessons that we engineered. After Imperialism, we finished the Semester with a intro to World War 1 and a study of Propaganda.
In the second semester, we made Facebook pages for historical people in World War 2. My group was assigned the Kamikazes, and I was the key player, so I assumed the identity of a Japanese Man who refuels airplanes during WW2. After the Faces of World War 2 project, we worked on our Spring Exhibition Project, about Student Movements, where my group investigated the Iranian Student Movements of 1999.
For our final project of the year, we studied Globalization. KJ and I traced the Boeing 787 and investigated Boeing's use of Globalization/Outsourcing through our illustrated essay.
We learned a lot of World History this year, and I am looking forward to American History next year.
