The Los Peñasquitos Watershed

The Los Peñasquitos Watershed is one of the watersheds in San Diego County. My group, which consisted of Ruthie, Kate Lee, Sara, Daylin, and Richard, researched the watershed and made a five minute video to put on SD CoastKeeper's wiki.

PROJECT REFLECTION:

This was our exhibition project for Biology. I worked with a combined group of all of the people in my class who reside in the watershed. I felt passionate about the issue of storm drain pollution in my hometown. Throughout the process of making the video, I learned a lot about Coast Keeper and the process of water testing.

I think this project is a great final product that illustrates our drafting and revision process. We all worked together on different parts of our video and water testing process in order to get the video done in time for exhibition. We worked hard on revising the script and getting it to match the video and pictures we took when we took a hike in the Los Peñasquitos Preserve.

Parents and teachers liked our video and especially liked the process that we had to go through in order to get our final product completed on time.

I personally gained skills on group managment and how to lead a group of 6 people. There were some tough times, but I perservered through the struggles and was able to pull through to edit the video and export it by 11:30am on Exhibition Day. I also gained skills on the process of water testing during our trips to SD Coastkeeper and the process of prepping the samples.

All in all, this was a fun project in which I learned a lot about not only watersheds, but also leadership and group work skills.
