First Semester Reflection

This past semester in humanities was nothing like I imagined. Going into the year, I had hope for a seamless semester that included a smooth internship experience and I hoped that I would get a job to make money for my One World Week. Unfortunately, this year started off rocky. I had my internship at SDSU and I thought I would get a car to cut transportation times dramatically. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, so I had a crazy transportation mess that took a lot out of me as the semester went on.

This semester I have grown as a reader. I went into the year as not liking reading, because most of the books in my past that have been thrown on me have not been of interest to me. We started off the year reading Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. I had problems focusing while reading this book at the start; likewise, I got a 1/10 on my very first 11th grade PopQuiz. I followed the Amy appellate process to try to explain my case to get my grade higher, since my grade in Humanities was a C- at this time (the quiz was the only thing entered into PowerSchool). I was able to succeed at the rest of HuckFinn as I went to places around town (such as Black Mountain or the Rancho Peñasquitos Waterfall) where I could read distraction free. For my ancillary reading book, I read the majority of it in Starbucks. My one goal for the second semester is to try to improve my reading comprehension skills, because we will be reading more books next semester both ancillary reading and in class books.

I’m looking forward to the return of WEX. For the short time we did WEX this semester, I felt that I had a time to express myself through writing in class. I was always eager to try new writing elements and I can’t wait until the promised return of WEX next semester.
